The MOOC Model
The MOOC is an emerging techno-pedagogical educational model, developed in the online modality and characterized by the use of Internet and ICT resources; it focuses on the student, who is directly and absolutely responsible for her own learning; it is massive, because it is a training proposal aimed at thousands of participants simultaneously and openly, because it is free to access, that is, because anyone can freely access the digitized content of the courses with no other requirement than their motivation to learn. Finally, MOOCs are based on different theoretical approaches, such as connectivism (cMOOC), behaviorism (xMOOC) and constructivism (tMOOC).
It is a new digital pedagogical model that radically changes
distance learning. A MOOC is identified by these three characteristics:
- Knowledge is transmitted through short audiovisual pills
- Peer-to-peer learning is generated among students, who learn and interact through forums and social communities
- It is distributed in intuitive and attractive e-learning platforms for the user
